Well this is a kinda strange 1st World Dog post as I’m currently hanging out at SASH (the small animal hospital and emergency vet). The lovely people here are looking after me because just before bed last night Dad found a paralysis tick on my neck. It was a big bugger too. He got it off but unsure if he got it all and because they are nasty mum then took me down here to SASH.
All a bit weird as it isn’t my lounge and miss my family (and know they are missing me too but hear toddler is doing a good job of protecting deck from birds… Good work toddler)
My mate Hawks is also here too. He came down a couple of hours earlier as he is having a pretty big operation on his leg today. See I really just wanted to keep him company. Here is a pic of me & Hawks from a recent trip to the park.
With the warm temps these nasty ticks are out and about. You find them by giving us lots of pats, just like dad did last night, and if you find one don’t delay in getting to treatment. They can be fatal.
If you want to read some more about them here is a link:

And a good write up from one of the local vets: http://www.pittwateranimalhospital.com.au/ticks.html
The guys here would prefer to keep me in atleast 24hrs so likely I will be keeping Hawks company again tonight.
Take care guys and see ya tmw… Licks licks Bods
It’s lucky your dad found it in time ^ ^ and how nice of you to keep hawks company. Toddler seems to be having fun with the bird. Stay safe 🙂
Still there Donna…. started seeing some symptom with my gag reflex but getting all the right treatment and monitoring. Way too common this summer.
Golly – hope you’re ok – nightmare things those ticks…
Thanks Ruby. Slow improvements. Hope to be able to eat later today (they have had me on an IV)… Enjoy a dead thing for me in the meantime.
Poor bodhi – very sad to hear this news. Maybe mum will let you off trials this weekend – take it easy x
Doctors orders will be rest for a couple of weeks. Although after a couple of days crated I am sure I will be bounding with energy after this rest.
Lots of get well licks from Ruby:)
Thanks Ruby. Find something good and smelly to roll in for me…. I can’t get into too much trouble here at SASH so I need your adventures to be me entertained.
ok will see what I can rumble up especially for you!
Hope you well and home with your family soon!
Thanks Linda. Slow improvements being made. Hoping to get back to food later today and that’s when I get to go home.
Eeek – that was a close call. Especially if some of the muscles were starting to be affected. Glad your mum & dad were smart enough to get you in overnight at the hospital. Hope everything good with you now???
Thanks Kate & Scooter…. yep back to my usual chaotic self. A lot to be said for errring on the side of caution in that situation. Great well written and researched post on ticks from you.
